Electrical Engineer

Job Description

AKM Consulting Engineers is seeking an Electrical Engineer with previous experience in water, recycled water, wastewater, and stormwater/storm drain systems to join our team in Irvine, California. Work will be conducted under the direction of Principal Engineers. In addition to technical abilities, an ideal candidate will have excellent communications and writing skills; be able to assist in working directly with clients via email, meetings, and phone conversations; and be able to document work efforts in a report format. Duties will include planning, design, and construction support related to electrical and controls design.

 

Typical responsibilities will include the following:

  • Perform complex analysis, calculations, design, evaluation, and inspection
  • Design of electrical, instrumentation, SCADA, controls, MCC, HMI’s, P&ID, network diagrams, PLC panel layouts, field instrument lists, and lighting systems
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, and calculations
  • Assist in preparing construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Provide engineering support during construction
  • Provide technical support in preparation of proposals
  • Perform on-site condition assessment of existing facilities
  • Assist project manager/principal engineers with project coordination and design
  • Assist in preparation of electrical system design, site visits, review shop drawings
  • Perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of California.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in water resource projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of National Electrical Code, local electrical codes, and Greenbook.
  • Proficiency in relevant design software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other engineering analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, PowerPoint). 
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to develop innovative engineering solutions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and interact with clients and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
  • Experience working on projects in Southern California and familiarity with local agencies and permitting processes is preferred.
